The energy of a quartz watch comes from the watch battery.
01Types of quartz watch batteries
The types of quartz watch batteries can generally be divided into five types: lithium batteries, silver oxide batteries, silver peroxide batteries, mercury oxide batteries and solar batteries. Each battery has its own advantages and disadvantages. Different brands and models of watches also need to be equipped with different types of batteries.
Lithium batteries have a long storage life. Silver oxide battery is the more common battery in quartz watches. Silver peroxide batteries have a higher capacity. Because mercury oxide batteries are harmful to the environment, few quartz watches are used. Solar cells convert light energy into electrical energy, which is more environmentally friendly.
02 How long can the quartz watch battery last?
Quartz watches generally have a life span of 2-3 years depending on the loaded movement and actual conditions of wearing. Some high-end three-hand quartz watches are equipped with an electric exhaustion warning device. When you find that the second hand of the quartz watch jumps for a few seconds, it is a sign of insufficient power supply. You need to replace the battery as soon as possible. The digital display electronic watch will use the flashing display board to indicate that the battery is running out.
When the quartz watch battery is exhausted, if the battery is not replaced in time, it is likely to cause the battery to leak and damage the internal parts of the watch.
03 Maintenance of Quartz Watch
Although quartz watches do not require comprehensive cleaning and oiling services like mechanical watches, they also need to be tested for waterproofing, appearance cleaning, and maintenance within a certain period of time. The waterproof test is recommended to be done every 1-2 years, and it can be tested together when the battery is replaced, and if there is any problem, deal with it in time.
Appearance cleaning needs to be carried out according to the environment and condition of daily wear. Keep the metal surface of the watch free of sweat and dirt. The long-term accumulation of dirt will corrode the metal layer on the surface of the watch case.
The whole machine maintenance is recommended to be done every 5-7 years to effectively extend the service life of the quartz watch.
